Tucked away as the stars flew by,
The world used to be dark and cold, but mine,
“Forgive us, forgive us,” the white coats cried.
They plucked me from the street, swaddled me dry,
I was wrapped up in a warmth I had never known,
Tucked away as the stars flew by.
And they gave me a name! “Laika, bye,”
They whispered, my nose pressed to the glass.
“Forgive us, forgive us,” the white coats cried.
So they sent me off into the sky,
My muzzle clamped shut, my limbs wrapped tight,
Tucked away as the stars flew by.
And those salty stars sunk through my eyes,
Into my head where I heard soft echoes:
“Forgive us, forgive us,” the white coats cried.
I saw in the inky blue that my end was nigh,
And my head felt fuzzy and light, but warm,
Tucked away as the stars flew by,
“Forgive us, forgive us,” the white coats cried.
